Pre College Violin/Viola Lessons
Young children and teens are always welcome in my studio. For the youngest students, I’m happy to hold a trial lesson, or simply chat with the parents on the phone, to determine readiness. We can check things like physical coordination, ability to listen in lessons, and the discipline to practice (with adult supervision) for at least a few minutes each day.
In all of my pre college violin/viola lessons, I choose age-appropriate teaching strategies, method materials, and literature. For instance, if your child would love to play a tune from “Frozen” on the violin or viola, I will be more than happy to include it in our lesson materials. Or if you have a middle schooler who wants to “graduate” from method book material, we can work together to select challenging and rewarding pieces of music by prominent composers. I want my young students to:
Genuinely love music, not just the instrument
Experience music that inspires them and encourages them to practice
Learn to practice and learn independently

Violin Lessons For Adults
I’ve worked with college students, young professionals, and retirees on the violin, and I enjoy the broad range of goals and interests adults bring to lessons. Some adults want to tackle Paganini, while others want to gain the level of competence necessary to participate in a civic orchestra or worship ensemble. We can also focus on specific concepts, like the development of tone, vibrato, harmonics, or other facets of violin/viola playing.
Audition Preparation and Career Readiness
If you have an audition, recital, or competition coming up in the future, I would be happy to help you prepare. I’ve performed in Carnegie Hall, won numerous prizes, and participated in groups like the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra, and I can share my personal experience on how to succeed in auditions. We can fine-tune your interpretation, choose literature that is “showy” enough to wow judges while also allowing you to play expressively, and hold mock auditions or performances. We can also discuss strategies for solid memorization.
