Music videos are awesome. The more time and effort you pour into them, the more you want them to receive views and gain the attention your hard work deserves.
Considering we live in a culture driven by video consumption, using visuals to promote your music is a MUST!
Over at Unlimited Sounds we have been working with an alt/folk rock band Saint Ashbury who recently finished their video for “Bad Luck” off their recent album Dressing Babies.
After securing permission from the band to upload the video to our UL Sounds YouTube channel, I made this tutorial to demonstrate how easy it is to set up a YouTube Advertisement to guarantee your video is being seen by the right audience, specifically potential new fans.
In this example, I set up a campaign for $5.00 which Google Adwords automatically spread over 14 days costing us $0.36 per day.
Typically, I will start a new campaign with a small budget in order to test my targeting. After seeing how the ad performs and what results we receive, I will adjust the targeting of the ad (if necessary) and up the budget.
Once you find a combination of targeting parmeters that works… stick with it and keep pumping money into it.
Obviously your goal should be to drive traffic to your music in order to drive sales and/or streams depending on if you offer physical products or just digital releases.
Google Adwords / YouTube Ads is also a powerful tool for promoting events and tours because you are able to narrowly target your audience. In the case of tours or events, you can target specific locations in order to raise awareness, drive ticket sales and attendance.
